Food - what to avoid - First Trimester - Prevent Miscarriage

What to avoid , especially in the first trimester:

1. Coffee/Tea/Cool Drinks/Caffeinated drinks - instead take more water/fresh juices/cold milk/mint tea
2. Raw Papaya/Pineapple/any fruits which produce 'heat' in the body - instead have bananas/oranges/lemons/apples/raisins
3. Very hot/spicy food - try cooking food using black pepper, and avoid excess of red/green chillies and garam masalas
4. Oily food - it's better to boil/bake/stir-fry rather than deep-fry food
5. Outside food (from the street/restaurants)
6. Packaged food which have preservatives
7. Maida - use whole wheat instead
8. If you are non-vegetarian, avoid chicken/mutton and opt for fish instead. Also consume boiled eggs, rather than fried eggs.

In case you have taken any of the above, don't panic - nothing in moderation will hurt you.

Just remember to eat light, healthy, and drink plenty of water. Don't eat very heavy meals, instead have small, easily-digestible meals, every three hours. Also remember to take your pre-natal supplements(especially folic acid).

As for physical activity, take it easy, and avoid any pressure on your pelvic region. Simple stretches and slow walks should be enough.
